BREAKING: Ankle Holster Clearly Visible As Police Release Keith Scott Shooting Video

Charlotte police are releasing body camera and dash camera video of the shooting of Keith Lamont Scott, a convicted felon who was shot and killed by Officer Brentley Vinson after Scott was told by police to drop his handgun 11 times in 45 seconds.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police Chief Kerr Putney released videos Saturday of the deadly encounter between a CMPD officer and Keith Scott.

Putney said he released one body-worn camera, dashcam footage, DNA evidence and physical evidence. There are more videos, but the ones police released show the actual incident, officials said.

Scott, a 43-year-old black man, was shot and killed Tuesday by Brentley Vinson, a black CMPD officer, officials said.

Putney said Scott was “absolutely in possession of a handgun” based on evidence from the scene, but that the video does not definitively prove a gun was in his hand. He said that officials will have to look at the whole picture.

Putney said the officers saw Scott with marijuana but were not interested in him until he brought out a gun. Putney said he will not charge the officers, but he added that the State Bureau of Investigation is still investigating.

“When you’re in possession of marijuana and then you produce a gun,” Putney said, “That becomes public safety.”

“We do not shoot to kill. I wish I could control the outcome of the shootings,” Putney added.

Putney said he decided to release the videos Saturday because SBI officials told him it would not have any “adverse impact” to their independent investigation. Putney said his aim was to handle the situation correctly instead of quickly.

Here’s the first piece of body camera footage.

Here’s the dash camera.

You’ll note that an officer immediately says “I’ve got gun,” meaning that they’ve recovered Scott’s gun, after they handcuff him.

There’s also a free-frame of Keith Scott just before shots are fired. You cannot clearly see anything in his hands due to the grainy quality of the video, but an empty ankle holster is clearly visible on his right ankle.

The last I checked, those aren’t designed to carry books.

I don’t think it would take that long to read a Colt Mustang .380.

By the way, you’ll note the gun is cocked and the safety was off.

Was Keith Scott about to open fire when he was killed?
